Institute Outcomes

Teachers will…
begin to understand the theme of immigration and American expansion (1776-1860), and how these immigrants contributed to American nation building, by attending five-day summer institute sessions and completing selected readings.
• become familiar with the targeted American history learning standard from the state curriculum frameworks that should be reflected in their American history lesson.
• begin to see the connections among the varied primary source materials (i.e., artifacts, documents, etc.) at the historic sites/societies, libraries, archives and museums; their grade-level essential question; and targeted learning standard(s).
• begin narrowing the choices of national parks/historic sites upon which their lesson will focus.

Lesson Planning Workshops

Workshops 1 and 2 require that ALL teachers meet together to identify their lesson topics and create a unit assessment that will integrate individual lessons. While you are responsible for developing a single lesson it MUST be part of a unit.
