Welcome to the Research Orientation!

Our goal here is to help you become more familiar and comfortable with the resources at our partner sites and with how to use these resources to find primary source documents integral to your inquiry-based lesson. Please complete this Orientation before the Summer Institute, August 15, 2011.

This page is easily accessible from all wiki pages by using the Primary Sources link in the navigation menu on the left side of each wiki page.
Please take some time to become familiar with the page and our partners.

Guide to Conducting Research

Here is Dr. Reeve's "Guide to Conducting Research" which provides helpful tips about preparing to research in archives and collections.

Teachers who are returning to the project from Becoming America Year 2, will be happy to learn that a new module has been created using different resources.**

The Research Process Webquest

Please complete the webquest (online lesson) on the research process. It has been tailored to you, the Becoming America Project participant, and is interactive.
As you go through the webquest, you will be asked to post your results. Post these results by clicking on the Discussion tab at the top of this page.

Top Ten things to do before the Summer Institute:
  1. Be sure that you have created a profile on the Teacher's page.
  2. Think about what you already teach that relates to this year's theme.
  3. If you can, visit a project partner in person.
  4. Visit the project blog for updates on the project.
  5. Read the readings for the Summer Institute that are found in your white Project binder.
  6. Complete the Research Orientation webquest.
  7. If you have a smartphone, download Twitter on your device and be one of the Summer Institute tweeters.
  8. Remember your "lunch money" and pack your walking shoes!
  9. Please be on time in the morning and after lunch breaks.
  10. Come ready to have a great time!
